You may think that t’s quite a daunting task to get started, but not really if you follow the steps. Now don’t get me wrong, there are are a few things to get done before launching your podcast, but it’s straightforward enough.
I have a ‘no fluff’ approach to doing anything and believe in getting from ‘A to B’ as quickly as possible.
Take the steps below when you’re asking yourself ‘How do I start a podcast?’ and please download the FREE guide at the bottom of this article that gives you the steps to get going with your podcasting journey.
What will you call your Podcast?
Choose your Podcast Name. Have you already got a business name that you’d like to use? It doesn’t have to be the same, there’s no rules but just make sure it’s obvious to listeners to attract and most importantly the right audience.
What will your Podcast be about?
Choose your Podcast topic. Do you want it to incorporate your day-to-day business or a topic that you’re passionate about? Would you like to generalise more with your Podcast and help people in different areas, still within your topic or niche?
What format of Podcast will you choose?
Decide on the format of your Podcast. Maybe you want your own show, a co-host perhaps? Possibly do interviews or a mixture of them all. Again no rules but plan your first few before you start.
Choose a Hosting Company
Pick a hosting company. This will be the home of your podcast, similar to a website host. There are many to choose from and there are some suggestions in the FREE guide that you can grab below.
Have the title and notes for your first episode
Plan your first few episodes. What do you want your first few episodes to be about? Map these out with titles and notes to help you with your recordings.
Recording and Editing your Podcast
Don’t get hung up about the tech, this is just another step to getting it done. To start with, choose Garageband if you’ve a MAC or download Audacity if you’ve a PC. Get started and see how you go.
Artwork for your Podcast
This needs to stand out and you can do this yourself or get a designer to do it for you. All the spec needed is in the FREE download to starting your podcast, that you can grab below this article. Have a read to ensure that you follow the guidelines to being accepted for the relevant platforms.
Get started with what you’ve got. If you’ve very little budget, then see what it sounds like using the internal speakers of your computer. Remember that the audio has to be clear for your listener, but no need to be fancy to get started. There are equipment suggestions listed in the FREE checklist to starting your podcast, in the box below.
Submitting to Directories
There are several places to submit your podcast to, free of charge. My advice would be to be everywhere you can and to promote when you get the chance. You can also link back to yourepisodes like you would with blog posts, when the topics are relevant.
It’s a great way to market your business and a way to reach another audience of your ideal customer.
